Northern Morocco
From Tangier and white Asilah to blue Chefchaouen, Roman Volubilis and the Fes medina. Private, at your own pace
For information only, not an offer yet. Brochure not opening? Email me and I will send it to you.
I arrange this route through northern Morocco in full for you as a 9-day private trip. You start on the Strait of Gibraltar in Tangier and in the blue-and-white seaside town of Asilah, head into the green Rif mountains to blue Chefchaouen and walk to the Akchour waterfalls. Via Roman Volubilis and the imperial city of Meknes you end with three nights in a riad in the Fes medina, with a day trip to the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas.
Highlights
- The Kasbah and medina of Tangier, looking out over the Strait of Gibraltar
- Cape Spartel and the Caves of Hercules, where the Mediterranean meets the ocean
- Blue-and-white Asilah within its Portuguese walls, with murals and sunset on the bastions
- Two nights in blue Chefchaouen in the Rif mountains
- A walk to the Akchour waterfalls and God's Bridge
- Roman Volubilis (UNESCO) and the holy town of Moulay Idriss
- Meknes, the imperial city of Moulay Ismail, with the Bab Mansour gate
- Day trip to the Middle Atlas: the cedar forest with wild Barbary macaques, Ifrane and the cave houses of Bhalil

What I will arrange for you after launch
- Pickup at the arrival airport and the transfer on your last day; the details are in the brochure.
- All hotels and guesthouses, booked in advance at the level you choose: Budget, Comfort or Premium.
- Transport on the ground: a rental car waiting for you (self-drive) or a private driver and private transfers. Domestic flights and trains where that makes sense.
- The activities and entrance fees on the route. Prefer a guide? I can add a local guide to any activity.
- Breakfast, and the meals at remote places with no alternative (such as a safari lodge, desert camp or yurt camp). For the other meals I give you my restaurant recommendations, but you choose completely freely where you eat.
- A personal intake, at your home or by video call.
- A WhatsApp line, before and during your trip, and my personal 24/7 number.
- A call-back after your trip.
- Your international flight from Brussels: after launch I'm happy to book it for you, or you book it yourself. Prices on the site exclude the flight.
Travel whenever you like
Your dates are completely free: there are no fixed departure dates, you leave on the day that suits you. My recommended route takes 9 days. Shorter or longer is possible too; I adapt the route.
This is advice, not a rule. If you want to travel in another month, I tell you honestly what to expect (rain, heat, crowds) and adapt the route.
Level and transport
You choose the level of your hotels and how you get around. Same route, same care; only the hotels and the transport differ.
Price coming soon – join the interest list to be the first to receive it. Travelling solo, you pay a supplement. With four travellers the price per person goes down.
If you are interested, I am happy to send you the hotel guide with all the addresses.
More about self-drive and the private driver on this route
Self-drive
The north is ideal for a self-drive: short distances (the longest drive is approx. 3 hours), good roads and plenty of fine stops. You collect your rental car (full insurance with zero excess) in Tangier on day 2 and return it in Fes on day 7, after the day trip to the Middle Atlas; the one-way fee is included. In Tangier and Fes you do not need a car: a private driver takes you to and from the airport. Fuel, tolls and parking are paid locally. Your roadbook gives a guarded car park at the edge of the medina for every hotel.
Private driver
A French- or English-speaking private driver takes you in a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle on all travel and excursion days: from Tangier airport, via Cape Spartel to Asilah, through the Rif to Chefchaouen, to Akchour, via Volubilis and Moulay Idriss to Meknes and Fes, on a day trip to Ifrane and the cedar forest of Azrou, and on the last day to Fes airport. He waits during your visits and drops you at the edge of the medinas. He is a driver, not a guide.
Flight
After launch I'm happy to book your flight for you, or you book it yourself.
Flight to Tangier, returning from Fes, not included. I am happy to book the flight for you, or you book it yourself.
Travelling responsibly
You stay in small, locally owned riads and guesthouses, eat at small family places and buy directly from the workshops of Fes. If you choose a guide, I arrange a local, licensed guide paid per visit. The drives are short and in Fes the car stays behind: you explore the medina on foot. You fly into Tangier and home from Fes, so you never drive the same road twice.
